Someone Else’s Dream to Me

20150830_014105 (1)

Here in my studio, I am nothing
but words and poetry scrawled
across these brick walls
that don’t crack and never fall.

You don’t seem to know me,
but if you gave me the chance,
maybe you’d see that I’m
not so bad to be around.

Outside the window, a fog grows,
and as the sky pours over neon lights,
I think to myself that I can survive
a sin of a life for you.

And you don’t know me,
but I dream of your pallid complexion
and your torrid blush pressing into me,
holding against a vapid reality.

We watch the insipid doldrums die.

Every word to pass my lips, you’ve never heard.
And the last thing I ever said, I’d die for you.
You’re just someone else’s dream to me.

Dry is the soil that I once planted seeds
that grew into the vines and grapes
from which I meant to find the fruit
that I would make into wine for you.

We were meant to walk along the beach,
and in the sand, we’d leave our foot prints
that fade into the ocean and swirl about
as the tide and the water recedes

On cobblestone, barefoot, I enter the park
where I go when I have nothing to think of but you,
now stumbling over stones and laughing aloud
to the coarseness of my smoke scarred voice

Under day light and moon light, you are the same,
haunting and taunting me, blessed and meek.
You’re too beautiful to come inside
when the night is warm and fireflies collect.

There’s no time for the righteous to dignify the weary.

You’re someone else’s dream to me.

In my sight and in my reach,
your eyes seem so far from me.
Like a lost memory of some special day,
eternally celebrated and then gone away.

In a red journal, I write over again
your name in cursive lettering,
each sentence inscribed with my soul,
without punctuation, a thought draws on..

We can be a thousand miles away,
but it isn’t my right to tamper and test
distances I can’t traverse
and routes that lead you awry.

You don’t know me,
but I like to sleep with the radio on,
since when I nod off, I sometimes hear
how you sound when you speak.

I can’t remember a day I didn’t think of you.

Just someone else’s dream to me.
