Found on the Back of a Green Tea Box

Diamonds dazzling and colors revising
Grass beneath open expanses above
Soaking in water, a new sun rising
Absolving trees of its dew upon cloves
How I yearn to see the mountains beyond
All the land afar, the sands and the sea
To be among colors, shapes, forms du monde
Constrained by dry partition, send this plea
To the mariner, to the seafarer
Tell them, I’ll mop the deck and raise the sails
To the mountaineer or to the merchant
I’ll carry their gear, and wounds, I’ll cater
Yearning for legend, for freedom, for tales
Someday far away, for life is nascent

Written for Sasha’s English class. Didn’t bother not to reuse ‘nascent’ so shortly after my last poem.

Petrarchan sonnet, except the octet is written ABABCDCD like a Shakespearan sonnet. Rather proud of my attempt to adhere to the rules and structure of the sonnet.
